Dihya Surf Morocco carries the name of Dihya, the legendary Amazigh warrior queen who defended her people and land with strength and courage. She remains a timeless symbol of freedom and resilience values that inspire the spirit of our surf school.
For us, surfing is more than a sport. It’s about freedom, balance, and letting go. It’s the moment you leave behind routine and worries to embrace the ocean, the long sandy beaches, and the authentic rhythm of Moroccan life.
Founded by Moroccan surf champion Maryam, Dihya Surf Morocco was born from a lifelong passion for the ocean. Growing up in Tamraght, one of Morocco’s surf capitals, Maryam turned her childhood dream into reality first as a competitor, then as a coach, and now as the founder of her own surf school.
Together with her team of dedicated instructors, she welcomes surfers of all levels to discover the joy of surfing, the beauty of Moroccan culture, and the spirit of Dihya: strong, fearless, and free.
Maryam El Gardoum is a trailblazing Moroccan surfer and the founder of Dihya Surf Morocco, one of the country’s few women-led surf schools. Born and raised in the coastal village of Tamraght, near Agadir, Maryam started surfing at just 11 years old.
Her passion and talent have led her to five Moroccan national surf championships and two longboard national titles, as well as international competitions like the European Championships and the ISA Surf Games, where she proudly represented Morocco.
Maryam named her surf school after Dihya (Kahina), the legendary Amazigh warrior queen, reflecting her mission to empower women and celebrate Amazigh cultural heritage through surfing.
At Dihya Surf Morocco, our vision is to create a community of surfers and adventurers, people from all walks of life united by their love for the ocean, adventure, and personal growth. We are committed to providing supportive and safe spaces where everyone, especially women, can thrive, gain confidence, learn new skills, and form meaningful connections.
We deeply value the people, culture, and environment of the places we operate. Every surf lesson, retreat, and experience is not just a moment on the waves, but an opportunity to connect authentically with Moroccan culture, support local communities, and celebrate the Amazigh heritage that inspires our school.
Our mission is to share the joy of surfing, foster personal growth, and leave a positive impact on both our guests and the local communities we serve – one wave at a time.
A lot of our first-time guests are concerned about this!
Our retreat welcomes women of all ages, starting from 18 and up. To give you an idea, about 80% of our guests are between 25 and 55 years old. We love witnessing the diversity and unique perspectives and experience that each guests brings to the group. We have created an inclusive environment that ensures that everyone feels valued and empowered, regardless of age.
Not at all! The majority of our guests come solo, and our retreats are carefully curated as supportive and inclusive experiences for everyone. You'll have plenty of opportunities to connect with other like-minded women and most likely build friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime.
We host a maximum of 12 guests in the majority of the experiences.
We promise you’ll have an epic time. "It’s truly amazing and hard to put into words", our guests say...If you are feeling the call, just do it, let go of any expectations and let us host you during the time of your life!
